Spooky Activities and Events this Fall by Erika Yupa ’28

Fall brings a wave of excitement with the crispy air, vibrant foliage, and an abundance of seasonal activities. That cozy feeling outside goes well with the joy of time spent with friends and family. This year in Bard High School Early college some fun activities coming up are the Annual Haunted House, Halloween parade in school, Halloween Costume contest and the Halloween bake sale with baked goods and treats. As the crisp air and vibrant foliage usher in the fall season, there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy.

Here is a roundup of some things to do this autumn:  

Exploring a Pumpkin Patch is one of the many fall activities you can do, whether you’re picking out the perfect pumpkin for carving or simply enjoying the festive atmosphere, a trip to the pumpkin patch is a great way to embrace the season. An attraction is the Queens County farm museum, which has been in operation since 1697. Here, you can feed and pet barn animals, including sheep, ponies, and goats. You can also go on a hayride and pumpkin picking and do your best to escape the Corn maze.

Take a Scenic Hike, with the leaves changing colors! Fall is the perfect time to go for a hike. Find a local trail and take in the breathtaking views of the autumn landscape. Mohammad Nawaz, the student government treasurer and one of the 9th grade reps says, “My plans for this fall was that I went to see the fall colors and get in a lift that takes you a few thousand feet above and up to the mountain NY state route 28.”

Attending a Fall Festival is also fun – many communities host fall festivals complete with hayrides, corn mazes, and seasonal treats. These events are fun for all ages and offer a great way to enjoy the local culture and festivities.

Have a bonfire as the evenings get cooler! Gather your friends and family for a cozy bonfire. Roast marshmallows, make s’mores, and share stories under the starry sky. It’s a perfect way to enjoy the crisp fall nights.

Decorate for Fall! Get into the spirit of the season by decorating your home with fall-themed decor. Think pumpkins, gourds, and autumn leaves. You can also create DIY crafts like wreaths and centerpieces to add a personal touch.

For those who enjoy a good scare, visit a Haunted House! visiting a haunted house can be a thrilling fall activity. Many places set up elaborate haunted attractions that are sure to get your adrenaline pumping.

Enjoy seasonal foods and drinks, since fall is the season for comfort foods and warm drinks. Indulge in pumpkin spice lattes, hot apple cider, and hearty soups. Visit local farmers’ markets for fresh, seasonal produce to incorporate into your meals.
