At the end of last month, Bard’s Model UN attended their largest conference of the year, GCMUN, and a total of 22 delegates went to represent. From DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee), to SPECPOL (Special Political and Decolonization Committee), BHSECQ’s students showcased their diplomatic abilities and negotiation skills in a three-day conference. Despite the competition and complex topics, BHSECQ rose to the challenge, winning the Best Large Delegation Award, which was awarded to schools with the best majority overall delegate participation. Despite the smaller number of delegates compared to the other schools, BHSECQ showed that quality over quantity is key. At the closing ceremony, delegate Billie Kiernan from the WHO (World Health Organization) Committee gave a powerful speech about the importance of regulating AI in medicine, the uniqueness of each country’s problems; and their importance in how the solution must be flexible, and acknowledging the importance of financial assistance to lower income countries, and short term and long term solutions that we need now. Thank you to faculty advisors Professor Michael Woodsworth and Dr. Vinh Phu Pham for chaperoning this excursion. And thank you to Dari Zell and Reuben Miller-Rosenfeld for organizing this trip and working hard to secure BHSECQ’s Model UN spirit.
